ACCESSING OUR PROGRAM

In line with our Disability Action Plan we are working together with Arts Access Australia to make our program more accessible to all Australians. This includes updates to our website.  Making it more accessible.

As well as designing a program especially to meet the needs of visual artists living with disability and mental health issues, we want to encourage people will disabilities to come and mentor our artist and present workshops with us.

We like to thank Arts Access Australia for making this possible through an Accessibility Grant. Over the coming weeks you will see lager fonts used. And we are developing more user friendly forms, some people with low vision and intellectual disabilities can complete them.

If during this process you need any information or forms on this website in an alternative format please contact us.

Our current pilot program has commenced in the city of Ipswich in Southeast Queensland through the support of the Ipswich City Council; ALARA Queensland, Access Arts Inc., Arts Access Australia and members of the Ipswich Community. Due to our current funding agreements we were only able to place Ipswich residents, however we would be happy to work in partnership with other councils in Southeast Queensland and disability support services to make our program more widely available.

We aim to make each program we run accessible to our participants and enable them to achieve their individual goals.  During our pilot program artists were able to further develop their skills in Fine Arts - Oil Painting; Abstract and Modern Art and Sculpture. The workshops and the style in which they are presented will change to suit the region in which the program is presented and what the artists tell us they need at the time.

Currently under the RADF funding agreement we are funded to provide:-

  • An accessible venue to host our workshops
  • Workshops and mentors to enable skill development.
  • Art supplies
  • Support Workers
  • Community-linking program
We are aware of current transport access issues for some of our artists and through our Disability Action Plan are seeking to address these. Currently we have no funding or means to provide transport, however are seeking with our partners to redirect funding to enable support workers to assist in this area.

For Ipswich residents we recommend you contract CODI. CODI's fleet of buses includes wheelchair accessible buses and provides medical transport and transport to life skills training. Their is a bus stop outside Luke's place on Salisbury Rd, all buses in the Ipswich Region are accessible and a bus connection is available at Ipswich Station. See the translink wsbsite to help plan your journey.
